Johnston Tobey Baruch handles a variety of family law appeals including divorce appeals, child-support appeals, common-law marriage issues, modification and enforcement appeals, and termination appeals.
The firm’s lead appellate attorney, Chad Baruch, handled a parental-rights termination appeal in which, for the first time in American legal history, the United States Supreme Court sought briefing from a state at the petition-for-certiorari stage. Chad has successfully handled a wide range of family law appeals in the Texas appellate courts, and has argued family cases in the Supreme Court of Texas.
Chad is board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and has handled appeals in the United States Supreme Court, the federal appellate courts for the Third, Fifth, Seventh, and Eighth Circuits, the Supreme Court of Texas, and the Texas appellate courts for Dallas, Houston, El Paso, Amarillo, Eastland, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Waco, Texarkana, and Tyler.
The publishing of results obtained by Texas law firms is limited by Comment #4 to Rule 7.02 of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct. The rule states that advertising which reports a lawyer’s achievements on behalf of former clients “may be misleading if presented so as to lead a reasonable person to form an unjustified expectation” of similar results.
