Robert Tobey, a partner at Johnston Tobey Baruch and an accomplished commercial litigator, has a strong commitment to supporting the most marginalized members of his community. As a third-generation Dallas resident, he has been actively involved in various initiatives aimed at providing legal assistance to those in need.
Mr. Tobey recently was appointed to the board of directors for Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT), an organization that he helped fund. Prior to serving as president of the Dallas Bar Association in 2020, he was co-chair of the bar’s 2015 Campaign for Equal Access, which supported the work of LANWT.
Under his leadership, the campaign raised more than $1 million to support programs that improve access to legal assistance for vulnerable populations.
“Almost 15% of Dallas County residents live below the federal poverty line and have no meaningful access to legal services,” said Mr. Tobey. “It is an honor to be chosen to serve on the board of directors for Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas. It is an organization dedicated to making a difference for those facing family law matters, evictions and other legal matters.”
Mr. Tobey has also served as a board member of the State Bar of Texas since 2021, as a Trustee of the Dallas Bar Foundation since 2019 and has served on the counsel of the National Conference of Bar Presidents since 2021.
LANWT is a nonprofit organization that provides free civil legal help to low-income residents in 114 Texas counties throughout North and West Texas. Its mission is to “ensure equal justice for low-income people through the provision of high-quality legal representation and to improve the lives of low-income Texans through the rule of law.”
